Our work

Band Together is an independent communications shop with a singular goal: to help mission-based organizations tell their story. We love rolling up our sleeves and pride ourselves on delivering work that our clients can put to use immediately. We ask hard questions and hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards. We approach every partnership with fresh eyes and have a healthy skepticism of PowerPoint templates and ChatGPT!

What we believe

Customization and flexibility are core to who we are, but at the same time, we love a good project tracker. We’re unapologetic generalists with a passion for leveraging communications to advance your strategy. From writing that upcoming speech to pitching your story to the press, to building your first public awareness campaign - we are your strategic partners, creative muscle, ghostwriters, extra hands, and cheerleaders.

About our name

In October 2017, one of the most devastating fires in state history raged across northern California. The region was in shock at the extensiveness of destruction and suffering. As part of the in-house Tipping Point team at the time, we found ourselves in a unique position to leverage the convening power of philanthropy in support of our neighbors.

Over the course of five weeks, we organized a star-studded benefit concert for 40,000 people at Oracle Park to honor the lives lost and recognize the heroic work of the first responders. The concert—featuring Metallica, Dave Matthews, G-Eazy, Dead & Company, and others—was called Band Together. The effort raised more than $33 million for local organizations that were providing resources to those most impacted by the fire.

We saw firsthand how the right message, at the right time can have a profound impact. We know that stories move people to action. While the fire was a unique moment in time, there doesn't need to be an emergency to act with intention and bring people together around a shared vision. Our clients do it every day.

When people band together, big things happen.

Meet the team

Joshua Steinberger
CO-FOUNDER

I've spent the past two decades working at the intersection of strategy and communications. As the head of External Affairs at Tipping Point Community, I worked with an extraordinary group of teammates to leverage the power of storytelling, press, and events to articulate the complexity of poverty. As a member of the executive team at the Presidio Trust, I helped lead the transformation of a military post into a cherished national park. The common theme of my career - from early work on political campaigns and graduate studies in urban planning to my current work supporting mission-based organizations - is bringing people together around a shared purpose. On the weekends, you’ll find me coaching youth soccer, chasing the dogs, and carpooling kids around the amazing Bay Area.

Marisa Giller
CO-FOUNDER

Throughout my 20-year career, I've worked with trailblazing organizations across sectors from Levi Strauss & Co. to Tipping Point Community, and the award-winning, global PR agency, FleishmanHillard. I'm a utility player at heart, with expertise in creating comprehensive communications plans, developing media relations strategies, and writing content for diverse audiences using a multitude of channels. I provide strategic counsel at the highest levels while always maintaining a willingness to pitch in on the day-to-day tactics. After over a decade in the Bay Area, I moved to my hometown of St. Louis, Mo. (Go Blues!), where I can be found running after my two little ones and re-exploring my favorite childhood haunts.

Let’s work together
